Empowering Independence. Supporting Everyday Life.
We are committed to delivering SIL services that feel empowering, respectful, and truly tailored to the people we support.
At National Community Assistance Services (Tenax Supports), our Supported Independent Living (SIL) services are designed to help NDIS participants live safely, confidently, and as independently as possible in a shared or individual home environment.
We work closely with each participant, their family, carers, and support networks to create personalised living arrangements that promote choice, control, skill-building, and long-term wellbeing. In addition to our Melbourne services, we also provide specialized Supported Independent Living accommodation and care in Geelong and Shepparton.

Home and Living Frequently Asked Questions
Supported Independent Living (SIL) is an NDIS-funded support that helps participants live in their own home or a shared living environment with assistance for daily tasks, personal care, skill development, and safety. SIL focuses on building independence while providing the right level of ongoing support.
SIL eligibility is based on functional support needs rather than diagnosis. The NDIA assesses whether SIL is reasonable and necessary by considering how significantly your disability affects daily living, whether informal supports are sufficient, and whether SIL aligns with your goals. A functional capacity assessment from an occupational therapist is usually required.

Yes. From 1 July 2026, all Supported Independent Living providers must be registered with the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission. This applies regardless of how a participant's plan is managed.
No. SIL funds the support workers who assist with daily living, not accommodation costs. Rent, groceries, and utilities are paid separately by the participant, often from the Disability Support Pension. A participant who also needs a purpose-built home can apply separately for Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA).
Discuss SIL at your NDIS planning meeting or plan review, supported by a functional capacity assessment from an occupational therapist and evidence of your support needs. Your support coordinator or Local Area Coordinator can help prepare the request.
